Creating Opportunities: Meet Jeff
Jeff Adams' goal was to work in computers once he left the Army. Not long after leaving
the service, however, he realized he wanted to try something different. Enter the
Computer Integrated Machining and Manufacturing program. Less than a year after graduating,
his career is underway at Westrock. Read Jeff's success story.
This program, designed by MCC-BT’s Precision Machining Consortium industry partners, begins with an intensive, one-semester certificate that prepares students to begin a career in manufacturing and machining. After completing the certificate, students can increase their skills and versatility by taking additional classes, such as CNC and MasterCAM, or by earning an Associate in Applied Science degree.
You'll work with the latest equipment in our state-of-the-art precision machining lab. We are a HAAS Technical Education Center (HTEC) and Mastercam software training facility. Our program is also allied with the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA).
We are certified by National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).
What You'll Learn
Computer Integrated Machining and Manufacturing students will learn to use manual lathes, manual mills and computer numerical control (CNC) equipment to manufacture precision metal parts.
What You'll Make in the Paid Internship
You can earn $12.50 to $13.50 per hour in the final six weeks of the first semester
in the CIMM program working at one of nearly 50 businesses in our internship consortium.
Students with a good attendance record in CIMM classes and a C grade or higher can
participate in the internship.
What You'll Do and Where You'll Work
You can work as a machinist or CNC programmer at companies such as WestRock, Fike Corporation, Abel Machine, Civacon, Ultrasource and many more.
What You'll Make
The average national median wage is $40,000 per year. This is a field with a high job growth rate.
